Can Sixty 3rd Graders Make a Difference in the world? You Bet!!!

Light in AfricaWhen the 3rd grade from Northstar Charter School in Eagle, Idaho called and asked us if we could help their sixty 3rd graders raise money for Light in Africa and teach their classes about issues around fair trade and economic justice, we were thrilled. I am always amazed by kids and their heart for injustice. I often remind people that you don’t need to convince young kids that families should have a roof over their head and people should be treated with dignity and respect…they just get it!!!  We are so excited to come along side of the kids and help them with this project. I am sure along the way, sixty 3rd graders will challenge us and teach us what it means to care for those in need.

About Light in Africa
Light in Africa is a non-profit NGO, located in Moshi, Tanzania. In 1999, while on vacation, she witnessed the poverty and abuse children living on the streets had to endure. Shortly after arriving home, she packed up her life in England and permanently moved to Africa.  What started out as a simple food kitchen, has now grown to six childrens’  homes, two food kitchens, and a traveling medical dispensary. It is completely funded by donations and largely ran by volunteers who give their time and money. Light in Africa has taken in over 250 sick, abandoned, and handicapped children and given them food, clothing, and schooling, but most importantly, given them a home where they are wanted and loved.
